- bus driver drove by and called the police as he saw lots of flies in the window. Which then led onto the council finding out where they have said 'clear or be cleared'

- enhancements of human capabilities
- he's been trying to conceal his problem from his sister
- never sat down in his front room
- you can't even see the size of the room

- not used his bathroom in 8 years
- takes everything to a warehouse so can sort through everything clearly.
- "makes me sad to think he's been living like this for a long time"
- so tragic and unimaginable
- Hoarding is a condition that takes over peoples lives.

- can't even get into her house, had to move into another house
- needs to clear the flat before the council do

- four jobs at once to pay her way. Single mum
- preventing her from seeing her daughter
- 'speaks to her daughter' she has an idea you can organise whats there.

- hoarders have a very different relationship with their things. We might see junk but they see treasures.

- "It's hard because its my possessions. But I think probably the real reason is much more deep and subconscious than that".

- Technical definition: when your possessions prevent the space being used for the purpose its normally being used for.

Jeff: "Up to 1939 I think I was bought a fair collection of expensive toys"
Paul: "Did you play with them a lot?"
Jeff: "I think so yeah. But my mother used to chuck them out when the paint was a bit damaged."
Paul: "So what were you left with?"
Jeff: "Not very many"
Jeff: "Occasionally I was lonely so I used to go off to other kids houses. I viewed these with amazement; cause they always looked as if a bomb had hit them. Kids toys all over everywhere. The houses were lived in. But our house…"
Paul: "Was perfect"
Jeff: "Thats right"
- he finds it hard to talk about. He's quite detached from his feelings.
- he grew up in the perfect house but now he's living in the opposite
- In 1966 he got married. 18 years later was divorced. Since then he has lost contact with his two children. Lost everything.

"I remember this sewing machine, I got it for £2"

"I think so, if it doesn't work I'll mend it".

- which could be a reason why he finds it hard to let go of them
