Make Do & Mend

During my tutorial we touched on talking about the Make do and mend era. And how that can link with hoarding and collecting. Mainly in todays society we are all very throw away and dispose of items and products over very minor things. Such as getting a snag or a hole in T-shirt. Nowadays I believe a factor for the reason we might do this could be down to being able to buy things so cheap. So that T-shirt with the hole in it we can just buy a new one for a couple of pounds on your next trip to the shops.Couldn't be more opposite to what it was like during WW2 (1939-1945). The make do and mend movement played a huge role in their daily life. Because of the shortage of supplies getting to England across the channel people had to work with what they had. In addition when it came to clothing manufacturers were commissioned to make uniforms and told to prioritise that over general fashion.

I think that this generation of people could be at a higher risk of being a hoarder or offspring that have followed on from their ancestors. "Nothing was thrown away, especially if it could be made into something else."
