One of the reasons as to why people collect toys could be for the social element of it all. I was just having a search at the different online communities; there are thousands of people involved. Above is a screen shot of the google 'Toy Community' that I joined to have a look at and get a deeper understanding.
Below is the different subcategories within the google toy community site. In each section people can post comments/photos/videos about the topic which then people within the group can comment their thought and opinions.
Just come across another google toy community called 'TOYS!' again similar to the previous one this has a range of subcategories where people can discuss.
